Research (primary)

Image 1:

What time period do you think the photograph was taken?

It looks like it could be from the 1950s or 60s. It looks like an old American alley, where gangsters hang out and  kill people. The guy who is walking looks like an old time gangster or detective. The lamp shade makes it  look like an old times photo.

What message could the photograph be trying to convey?

This is a very dull place. It makes you think that you’re not alone in the alley way, as it makes you feel like people are watching you everywhere you look . This is kind of a warning toward the audience, as the man looks like he is going to kill someone or do some damage.

What are the unique features that make the image different from current day photographs?

The light shades are different, because it is a low light, so I say it looks like they use the ISO  and the apature, because it looks like two different light shades  and  shadows  in the image .

Image 2:

What time period do you think the photograph was taken?

I say it is round about the earlier 2000’s, because of the clothes she is wearing, with the blind folds, as the blind folds looks like  they are  modern designs.

What message could the photograph be trying to convey?
It looks like she waiting for her lover to return from the army or some other kind of jobs or dutys, but he is never returning home. I think the message is that she is a lonely widow or something like that.

What are the unique features that make the image different from current day photographs?

The image isnt really that different from the 2000s, but all I can say is that I can make her more like old 50’s woman to make it more a theme to the image, I could take image through the window if I can.

What time period do you think the photograph was taken?
This looks like the 1920’s, Because the clothes makes him look like a gangster.Gangsters are normally around the 1920’s or 30’s decade. So this is the 1930s photo.

What message could the photograph be trying to convey?

It looks like the guy has just  kill someone, due to the cigarette in his mouth. The gangster is doing some business like, drugs, murder or going to a local club.

What are the unique features that make the image different from current day photographs?

The car look like they from the 2010 decade and the dude looks like the 1950’s, as it looks like it mixed decades, The lights in the image  looks like it is  a fill light and a key light, because there is light and shade. I say they use a shutter speed, because it is blurry far back  and none blurry close-up.

What time period do you think the photograph was taken?
I say 40’s, 50’s or 60’s, as the type writer & telephone looks like it is from one of these decades. The type writer looks kind of clean compared to the old version of the type writer.

What message could the photograph be trying to convey?
I think its about a working class scene or someone who is working in the office in the 1940-1960s. This could be a crime scene or a police office.

What are the unique features that make the image different from current day photographs?

The telephones and typewriters as they are not around any more, If I did it differently I would use a computer and mobile phone to make it look more current day.

I say the image is Appcher, as  it creates the affect on the objects . it is make the typewriter & telephone stranded out  on the photo. It is a fill light ,as the shadow makes the object reflect on the image .

What time period do you think the photograph was taken?
I'd say its around the 1950’s, because of the clothes he is wearing and the cigarette styles of the man smoking. The light from the background makes it more of a '50s photo.

What message could the photograph be trying to convey?
Looks like he could be a detective, as the clothes make him look like one,  and the way he is wearing the hat. Looks like  someone just got killed and he's looking down at the murder, or maybe he's just sad .

What are the unique features that make the image different from current day photographs?
The clothes he wearing, you don't see them  nowadays .The hat you might still get, but its not often you see people wearing these kind of hats.

The apature  makes the picture different ,because the light is aimed at the model and it is a fill light on the model and it standed out

What time period do you think the photograph was taken?
I say the early 1960s more, as she reminds me of a  female murderer in the early 1960s, Ruth Ellis who got hanged in the end. The clothes and the hair suggests  the '50s, but the knife looks more like the '70s kind of knife .So it could be a mixed photo.

What message could the photograph be trying to convey?
She's either trying make herself look pretty or she's about to kill someone with her knife , or maybe she intends to kill herself over a lover or  her career.

What are the unique features that make the image different from current day photographs?

You can still get these knives and you can recreate the hair, but I don’t think you can get the bras like that, as they are more curved than the one shown here.

What time period do you think the photograph was taken?
I'd say the 1950’s. There isn’t much I can say about this, but the  kind of hat he is wearing gives it away and the clothes he's wearing looks like the '50s, but the shadow is kind of covering the clothes up.

What message could the photograph be trying to convey?
I'd say the guys is depressed, because he looks like he sitting there looking at the floor or his hands, or he's either looking at something else.

What are the unique features that make the image different from current day photographs?
The cameras we have got now might be a lot better with the low light to see the guy, but they maybe intending to make the photo deliberately dark.  If I took this I would of shown more depth to the guy and make the background more dark .

What time period do you think the photograph was taken?
Looks like earlier 1970s, because the light in the shop  makes it show what century they are from. The guy looks like he wearing 1950s clothes and the way he walks looks like a drunken person leaving a club.

What message could the photograph be trying to convey?
I don’t think it gives any message, because the photo looks kind of straight forward  and doesn't much show the person. The man could be sad or just drunk  early in the morning.

What are the unique features that make the image different from current day photographs?

The light makes it seem like this isn't Market Square, even though it is.
